Cookie of the Week - ZOMBIE TREATS

It is a definitely a spooky time of year, not just because of ghosts, goblins witches and wizards, but because of (yeah, I’m looking at you @Hershey!):

• Chocolaty/Chocolat-y Coating;

• Chocolate Flavored";

• "Peanut Butter Style Crème” (what?!);

• Vanillin: A synthetic, chemically produced imitation of natural vanilla extract.);

• PGPR (Polyglycerol Polyricinoleate)

• Acesulfame Potassium (Ace-K) & Sucralose:;

• Aspartame

• TBHQ (Tertiary Butylhydroquinone): A synthetic antioxidant sprayed on high-fat fillings (like the peanut butter in some confections) to prevent the oils from going rancid.

• BHA (Butylated Hydroxyanisole) & BHT (Butylated Hydroxytoluene); among many others..

These genuinely freak me out, and this is coming from a chemistry major! Want an alternartive for your family and friends? How about rich natural black- as-a-witches’-hat cocoa, real original Reese’s ooey-gooey peanut butter chips, ghostly white chocolate chips and Halloween M&Ms (now with plant-derived dyes (bye bye Purple and +Green!; if your gonna have anything,; at least have the real thing! and skip - “Halloween-ish” brought to you by Dow Chemical/DuPont & Novartis”, your future unintentionally-embalmed self will thank you!
